Health Office Updates
Cold and Flu Season
Cold and flu season is among us. Please be sure to remind students to be washing their hands regularly and review this Colorado Department of Public Health
informational link about how sick is too sick and when to stay home. If you test positive for Covid, please follow the information under the influenza section. Wearing a mask through day 10 is great, but it's not required.
Counseling Corner
Hello Husky Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed a fun and safe Halloween! Here are some tips for how to handle that huge score of Halloween candy for healthier (and calmer) kids:
- Allow unrestricted access on the first couples of days to let the novelty wear off. Then, transition to serving it at planned snack or meal times.
- After the initial days, store candy in a shared but not constantly accessible location. Offer a piece or two with meals or snacks, which can help normalize sweets as part of a balanced diet and encourage kids to manage their intake.
- Try not to make candy a reward, which makes it too special. Instead consider trading the rest of the candy for a toy, sports equipment, art supplies, etc.
- Consider donating it to programs that accept it, such as dentists, overseas military, or food pantries.
Warmly,
Anna Donovan, MA, LPC
