The Animas Action Council, which is the new name for the IB Leadership Team, is comprised of outstanding 4th and 5th graders who are committed to modelling the attributes of the Learner Profile at Animas Valley. All participants must fill out an application that includes a paragraph requiring students to explain what leadership means to them, and how they will exhibit leadership at school.
During the 2014-2015 school year, the Leadership Team made it possible for recycling through Phoenix Recycling to come to Animas Valley. This action by students enabled Animas Valley to recycle for the first time using a pick-up service. Prior to last year, teachers had to drive our recycling into town to the recycling center. In additions, IB Leadership organized a spirit week, began a Safety Patrol to stop running in our hallways and collected money for Unicef.
This year, the Animas Action Council wants to host a Family Night, is going to help take yearbook pictures, and is actively encouraging our school to remain a healthy school. The challenge was given to all grade levels to have a healthy Valentine’s Day celebration. The Animas Action Council got off to a late start this year, but there are so many great ideas that it will be Action- packed!
