Animas Valley Team Makes it to Global Competition

Nearly 300 teams from around Colorado competed in the Destination Imagination (DI) state tournament last weekend, and one team of Durango 5th graders advanced to the Global Finals.

Animas Valley Elementary 5th grade students Holden Bronson, Dane England, Jack England, Alyxx Ford, Myla Glaser, Zach Oliver and Peri Wright won second place out of 24 teams in the state tournament’s elementary school technical category last Saturday. Participants are scored based on “instant challenges” - timed tests of teamwork and “think on your feet” problem solving - and prepared presentations to address an assigned challenge. The Durango team (who called themselves DI-DI-OH) designed, built and presented a device, props and a thoughtful and witty storyline to successfully navigate a tournament-provided maze.
