Principals Update 8-9-2021

Hello Animas Valley Families!
We hope this email finds you and your loved ones happy and healthy. The start of school is just around
the corner and our Animas Valley team is looking forward to reconnecting with students and families.
Please see below for specific Animas Valley updates.
AVE Fall Check-in
On August 12th from 8:00 am-1:00 pm AVE will be holding fall check in. Stop by and drop off any
completed paperwork. Representatives from transportation and student nutrition will be available to
answer any questions.
Not returning to Animas Valley?
Please call AVE’s office and let us know if your child(ren) will not be returning to AVE. This helps us
ensure the next school has your child’s records in a timely manner. You can also email Leslie Van Lindt
at Lvanlindt@durangoschools.org if you would like to contact the office via email.
Who will my child’s teacher be?
Great question! On Wednesday, August 18th you will receive an email from your child’s teacher
introducing themselves and welcoming your child and family to their classroom community. This email
may not arrive in your inbox until later in the day. You are welcome to call Animas Valley’s office
970-247-0124 on Thursday, August 19th if you haven’t received an email. We encourage families to
actively check their email for teacher, school, and district communication throughout the school year.
Meet the Teacher Event
Mark your calendars for Monday, August 23rd from 8:00-9:00 at Animas Valley for your child to meet their
teacher! At this time, we plan for teachers to be outside their daily drop-off/pick-up locations, so that
families who are able to attend know where to go on the first day of school. If you are not able to attend,
don’t worry. We know how busy everyone is with work and commitments. Your child’s teacher will be
sharing more information as the school year unfolds.
1st Day of School
Tuesday, August 24th
Kindergarten Staggered Start
All kindergarten students will have a staggered start to the year with one third attending on Tuesday, August
24th, another third attending on Wednesday, August 25th, and the remaining third will attend on Thursday,
August 26th. All kindergarten students will attend together on Friday, August 27th. You should have received
an email with your child’s start date. If not, please contact the school office at (970) 247--0124.
Daily School Hours
A reminder that Animas Valley’s school hours will be from 7:30 am-2:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Please try
your best to have students arrive on campus each day at 7:30 am.
Breakfast/Lunch
This year, Durango School District 9-R will provide breakfast and lunch to all students free of charge,
regardless of the child’s free or reduced-price meal benefit status.
School Supplies
School supplies with the exception of the personal items listed below will be provided for all students. .
Personal School Supplies Needed
● Backpack
● Lunch box
● Water bottle
● 1 pencil box
